Liverwort 3

Reboulia hemisphaerica

This liverwort was found on limestone rock almost in the splash zone of a small stream. It was photographed during March near Lake Belton in a canyon. The four black round objects (right image) are sporophytes on the archegonial disc at the tip of the gametophore stalk. The antheridial disc is the crescent-shapped mass of tissue on the thallus surface just behind the archegonial stalk. (The inset is of an unknown object)
