This moss was observed on a large boulder on the moist, shaded slopes of a canyon. Large mats of mosses covered many of the rocks. The sporophytes of this moss were seen extending from the growth of a more common moss. Not until examined at home under the scope did I realize that the sporophytes belonged to a less common species that was well hidden among the gametophytes of the more common moss.
