Ballmoss
Family Bromeliaceae
Tillandsia recurvata

Ballmoss is a member of the bromeliad group placing it with many other epiphytic plants often found on trees in tropical forests. It is not a true moss but is a flowering plant. Spanish moss is a very close relative to ballmoss but is not adapted to as dry an environment. The host tree is not usually affected by its presence since it obtains water and nutrients(dust) from the air.Several individuals may often occur on a single branch. This Texas persimmon tree is playing host to a group as well as some of the surrounding trees. This is located at Point 8 along with a group of cacti on the left side of the trail.
