Rough Green Snake
This snake is the most common snake along the trails. It is usually seen in the vegetation above the ground, but can be observed crossing the trails. Often it is motionless depending on its coloration for protection. Even though it is nonpoisonous, it should only be observed and not handled. Upon handling, a bad odor often remains on the hands of the holder.
The rough green snake gets its name from its color and the presence of ridges on each scale.
